Kauai Chamber of Commerce Survey - huge support for Superferry, mixed support for various Council bills

I doubt it qualifies as a "scientific survey" - there's no mention of confidence levels or margins of error. Whether respondents were randomly selected or self-selected, it doesn't say. So it might or might not represent a fair sense of the Chamber membership's sentiments on the large capacity vessel as well as a variety of issues currently before the County Council. Interestingly, the form allowed respondents to comment on each question giving them the opportunity to expand on or explain their answers.

I find the results believable. a poll of residents found a majority on Kauai supported letting the ferry operate during an environmental process. And Chamber members indicate they believe local business would benefit from its operation. So it stands to reason that their support would be greater than that in the community at large.

All that said, the survey results can be viewed here.

Support for the decision allowing the Superferry to operate was 79.5% versus 20.5% opposed among 73 respondents.

86.6% think the Superferry will help rather than hurt local business.

53.0% believe a moratorium on Agricultural Subdivisions on Kauai is necessary.

65.0% want the Chamber to support the Transient Vacation Rental Bill.

77.4% support the Shoreline Setback Bill.

56.7% favor sunsetting the Vendor Bill (Bill 2242 - Relating to Peddlers and Concessionaires) in the year 2013.
