The Garden Island News published my letter this morning in response to an earlier opinion piece concerning the Kauai property tax case by Walter Lewis (Ohana amendment decision result of classic Hawai‘i politics). It just reiterates what I've said here before, that, yes, the decision played loose with the procedural rules in order to save the case from extinction, but worse than that, it did violence to the plain meaning of the state constitution when it arbitrarily decreed that citizens could not impact property taxes by amending their county charters.
I see that Mr. Lewis was one of the homeowners who intervened in the case.
