This handsome specimen guards the oils at Papaya's Natural Foods in Kapa`a. (Having recently expanded into the space next door, Papaya's aisles have become a lot roomier. No more inadvertent patchouli oil transfers from coming into unwanted contact with hippies! (Not that there's anything inherently wrong with hippies, understand. I just don't like the reek of patchouli. Especially when used in lieu of deoderant. Not that there's anything wrong with..., oh, nevermind. To each his own, I say)).I don't know who carved this guy, but it appears fairly contemporary. I'll ask if anyone knows next time I'm in. Maybe its time to interview a real tiki carver in the 'pages' of Planet Kauai. Hm.
